Ostrowiec Wattle Pigeon
The Ostrowiec wattle pigeon is a Polish wattle breed connected with the Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski area and may be encountered in translation as an Ostrowiec warted or wattle pigeon. It belongs to the domestic pigeon species Columba livia and is kept for its regional type, facial character, and show qualities. The defining feature is the development of cere and wattle around the beak and eyes, balanced with a strong head, clean body outline, and the color varieties accepted by local fanciers.
This is a specialist fancy pigeon rather than a general utility or flying breed. Good housing keeps the face dry and clean, with enough space to prevent damage to wattles during courtship or feeding. Because rare wattle breeds can suffer when numbers are small, thoughtful pairing and notes on origin are useful for maintaining vigor. Buyers should look for birds that match a recognized Polish or club standard, not merely pigeons with large facial growths.
