Persian Highflyer
Developed in Iran and often called the Iranian highflyer, the Persian highflyer is a performance pigeon from domestic Columba livia stock. The name covers regional and family strains rather than a single narrow show type. These birds are selected for height, stamina, orientation, and the habit of returning to their own loft after long flights. Many are medium-sized and athletic, with colors and markings varying widely; in some English-language lists the names Persian highflyer, Persian tumbler, and Persian roller may be used loosely, so the actual flying behavior of a strain is important.
Good Persian highflyers are made as much by management as by pedigree. Youngsters are settled thoroughly before free flight, then conditioned in regular, measured sessions so they climb without becoming weak or overtrained. Feed is usually managed to keep them light but not depleted, and releases are planned around heat, wind, and raptor pressure. Breeders choose from birds that stay up, stay oriented, and trap back calmly. Buyers should ask about typical flight duration, altitude, and return reliability in the seller's loft.
