Persian Roller
In pigeon keeping, Persian roller usually means an Iranian roller or tumbler strain of domestic pigeon, related in naming to the broader Persian flying-pigeon tradition. Its defining feature is the aerial roll: a bird turns backward in flight, sometimes in quick single snaps and sometimes in deeper rolls depending on the family. Color names such as almond, black, blue-bar, red, and yellow may be seen, but serious flyer breeders place more weight on roll quality, control, frequency, and the bird's willingness to home.
Management is more cautious than for a purely ornamental pigeon. Young rollers are first trained to the loft and flown in small groups where their behavior can be watched. Birds that roll too deep, roll near the ground, or lose orientation are poor breeding choices even if they look attractive. A safe flying area, sensible feeding, and avoidance of high winds reduce losses. Because Persian roller, tumbler, and highflyer names can overlap in trade, buyers should ask whether a line is bred for spinning performance, endurance flight, or show appearance.
