Pheasant
Pheasant is a loose pigeon label and can cause confusion. In domestic pigeon breed lists it may refer to a fancy strain with pheasant-like coloring, stance, or patterning, but it is not as consistently documented as major standardized breeds. The name is also easily mistaken for the wild pheasant pigeon of New Guinea, a very different ground-dwelling species. When the term is used for domestic stock, the birds should be treated as varieties of Columba livia and identified through the breeder's standard, photos, and local club usage rather than the name alone.
Practical care depends on what is actually being kept. Domestic Pheasant-labeled pigeons are managed like other fancy pigeons, with a dry loft, secure nesting space, clean water, grit, and selection for sound bodies as well as markings. They are usually exhibition or ornamental birds unless a seller can demonstrate flight performance. If the intended animal is the wild pheasant pigeon, private ownership and transport are a separate legal and welfare matter, requiring specialist facilities and permits.
