Polish Helmet
The Polish Helmet is a Polish fancy pigeon built around the classic helmet marking: a colored cap on the head, usually paired with a colored tail, against a mostly white body. Helmet-type pigeons occur in several European traditions, and the Polish version is best understood as a distinct domestic pigeon variety with its own standard for cap shape, tail color, body proportions, and feather finish. The contrast can be black, blue, ash red, brown, dilute, or other recognized pigeon colors depending on the strain.
Exhibitors pay close attention to clean borders between colored and white areas, because a misplaced feather can change the look of the bird. Housing should keep the white plumage presentable: dry litter or grates, clean perches, and access to bathing water are more than cosmetic. Helmet markings do not reproduce precisely in every youngster, so breeders pair patiently and keep only birds that also have sound bodies and good temperament. They are generally manageable in hobby lofts, but, like any pigeon, need protection from predators and contact with sick feral birds.
