Polish Orlik
The Polish Orlik is a Polish domestic pigeon breed, developed from Columba livia and usually discussed among regional flying and fancy pigeons. Orlik means little eagle in Polish, a name that suits the alert, upright impression sought in many lines. Published English descriptions are limited, so the safest identification is by type: a neat, active pigeon with balanced head and beak proportions, good feathering, and the color variety accepted by the breeder's club or local standard.
Management depends on whether a family is kept for flight, exhibition, or both. Birds expected to fly need a settled kit routine, light conditioning feed, and careful attention to hawk pressure; show birds may be exercised less but still benefit from room and regular bathing. Pairing for this sort of breed is usually conservative, because small changes in head shape, carriage, or markings can move a loft away from the type that makes it recognizable as an Orlik.
