Polish Owl Pigeon
The Polish owl pigeon is a Polish member of the owl or frill family of domestic pigeons, all descended from Columba livia. Owl pigeons are recognized by a short beak, rounded head, full forehead, large-eye expression, and a small breast frill or cravat. Polish lines are judged by the exact balance of head, beak, body, and frill, along with clean color and feather texture; they are fancy show pigeons rather than working homers.
Short-beaked owl pigeons need practical attention that longer-beaked breeds may not. Feed should include grains they can pick up easily, and breeders watch young squabs to be sure the parents are feeding them well; very extreme pairs may need support from foster pigeons. A calm, dry loft helps keep the frill clean, and regular bath water improves exhibition condition. When buying, look for active birds with clear nostrils, even beak alignment, and enough vigor to breed, not only a rounded head.
