Polish Shield Highflyer
The Polish shield highflyer is a Polish breed of domestic pigeon, Columba livia, that links two old fancy interests: high flying and shield marking. A shield pigeon carries its main color on the wing shields while much of the body is lighter or white, though exact pattern rules depend on the standard used. Highflyer lines are expected to be active, tight-feathered, and willing to rise, while exhibition families may place more emphasis on color edges and stance.
Keeping the breed as a flyer calls for routine. Young birds are settled to the loft before serious training, fed lightly enough to encourage climbing, and flown with attention to weather and raptor risk. Birds kept only for show still need exercise, dry ventilation, grit, and bathing so the white areas stay clean. A useful question for sellers is whether their stock has recent flying background or is now maintained mainly as a marked fancy pigeon.
