Polish Short-Beaked Magpie Tumbler
The Polish short-beaked magpie tumbler is a Polish fancy tumbler derived from the domestic rock pigeon, Columba livia. It combines the short-faced tumbler head, with a very small beak and rounded forehead, with a magpie pattern of sharply contrasting colored and white areas. The term magpie is about marking rather than species ancestry, and accepted colors may include black, blue, ash red, brown, dilute, almond, grizzle, or checker-based varieties in different standards.
The short beak is the feature that most affects management. Birds must be able to feed themselves easily, and breeding pairs should be checked early in the squab stage because some extreme short-beaked pigeons do not feed young as reliably as longer-beaked breeds. Many fanciers keep foster pairs for valuable eggs. Clean nest bowls, low-stress handling, and regular baths help protect feather condition, while selection should favor birds that keep the magpie edges crisp without losing health or fertility.
