Pomeranian Pouter
Among the large pouters, the Pomeranian pouter is a Baltic-region fancy pigeon developed for the inflated crop that gives the group its name. Also called the Pomeranian cropper in some standards, it has an upright outline, a long frame, and commonly feathered legs and feet. Show varieties include black, blue bar, red, yellow, and white, with the best birds carrying a full globe above a balanced body rather than relying on size alone.
In the loft, Pomeranian pouters need room to walk and display without rubbing the globe or muffs against dirty surfaces. Standard pigeon grain, grit, and fresh water suit them, while exhibition birds are conditioned with regular bathing and steady handling. Selection is slow because posture, crop carriage, feather quality, and temperament all matter. A calm bird that displays readily and feeds its young is often more useful in a breeding pen than a larger but awkward one.
