Posen Colour-Head Tumbler
Named for Posen, the German name for Poznań, the Posen colour-head tumbler is a Central European fancy tumbler with roots in western Poland. Its name describes the main visual cue: a contrasting colored head on a lighter body, though the exact marking borders and accepted colors depend on the standard followed. It is bred more for exhibition pattern and type than for long-distance homing.
In breeding pens, the challenge is producing clean head markings, balanced tumbler shape, and sound vigor in the same bird. Marked breeds can throw mismarked youngsters, so keepers often raise more chicks than they expect to show and place surplus birds responsibly. Routine care is uncomplicated, with dry housing and clean nests doing much of the work. Birds also need grit, bath water, and a consistent grain ration.
