Rakovnik Roller
The Rakovnik roller is a Czech roller pigeon associated with Rakovník in Bohemia. It is a domestic pigeon breed, Columba livia, maintained within the Central European tradition of tumblers and rollers. The breed name points to a local flying fancy in which rolling ability, homing to the loft, and recognizable regional type were preserved by dedicated fanciers. Plumage colors can vary widely, including blue, black, red-based, almond, grizzle, checker, and dilute forms.
A Rakovnik roller loft is managed much like other performance-pigeon lofts: young birds are settled carefully, flown in teams, and watched for safe rolling style. Birds that roll too deeply, tire quickly, or fail to kit well are poor breeding prospects even if they have attractive markings. Clean loft conditions and steady feeding help keep the birds fit enough to fly regularly. Because the breed is less common outside its home region, buyers should ask how the strain performs in the air and whether the seller is breeding to a Czech or local club standard.
