Razgrad Roller
The Razgrad roller is a Bulgarian roller pigeon associated with the city and region of Razgrad. It descends from the domestic rock pigeon, Columba livia, and belongs to the Balkan and Black Sea tradition of performance pigeons bred for rolling in flight. The breed is valued mainly for aerial behavior: rising with the kit, maintaining orientation, and performing controlled rolls that can be judged by depth, style, and frequency. Color and markings vary by family and local preference.
Razgrad rollers are best kept by people who can fly and evaluate them regularly. Young birds need careful settling, protection from hawks where that is a risk, and training in weather that does not push them too far from the loft. Breeding choices should favor stable performers with strong homing instinct and good health, not birds that roll dangerously low. Since regional roller names can cover several related local strains, a buyer should ask to see the birds flown or learn how the family has been selected over several generations.
