Saxon Crescent Pigeon
The Saxon Crescent pigeon is a German color pigeon named for the crescent-shaped marking that defines its appearance. It belongs to the Saxon group of ornamental pigeons in which small differences in pattern create distinct breed or variety names. The crescent should be understood as a controlled show marking, not just a random splash of color, and it is usually evaluated along with body balance, feather condition, head character, and the accepted color class.
Care is ordinary in one sense and precise in another. Saxon Crescent pigeons need clean lofts, good feed, minerals, and calm handling like any domestic pigeon, but breeders also have to protect the sharpness of the marking through careful pairing. Young birds may not all develop exhibition-quality pattern, so culling for breeding purpose often means placing sound but mismarked birds outside the show team. Clear records help breeders understand which pairings produce the cleanest crescent.
