Saxon Cropper
The Saxon cropper is a German pouter-type pigeon from Saxony, bred for an inflated crop, upright carriage, and the regional style expected by fanciers of cropper breeds. Croppers differ from tumblers and color pigeons because the expanded throat and chest display is central to the bird's identity. Saxon lines may also carry particular colors or markings, but the crop, stance, and balance of body are what make the breed recognizable.
Management should support display without creating stress. Saxon croppers need enough space to move and posture, perches that suit their stance, and feed management that avoids excessive weight. Breeders watch for birds that inflate well, stand cleanly, and remain fertile and steady parents. The crop should be full and attractive, but not associated with poor breathing, weak legs, or nervous handling. Show preparation often includes gentle conditioning so the bird presents itself calmly.
