Saxon Spot
Saxon Spot is a German color-pigeon form named for a spot marking that distinguishes it from other Saxon patterned breeds. The appeal is in restraint and accuracy: a small or localized mark has to appear in the right place on a pigeon that otherwise meets expectations for size, carriage, feather quality, and color. It is a show and breeding variety, not a roller, highflyer, or homer type.
Because the defining feature is so specific, breeders need to be selective without losing sight of health. Clean loft conditions help keep pale feathers bright, and careful pairing helps improve both the spot and the bird carrying it. Mismarked youngsters can occur even from good parents, so breeding records are helpful when deciding which birds deserve another season. A Saxon Spot should be evaluated as a complete pigeon first, with the spot serving as the finishing detail.
