Show Antwerp
The show Antwerp is an exhibition pigeon derived from Antwerp and homer-type ancestors rather than a modern race bird. Its appeal is in form: a strong head, substantial beak and cere, alert carriage, and a body that suggests the old working homing pigeon while being shaped for the show pen. Belgian Antwerp pigeons influenced several homer and carrier traditions, but the show Antwerp is assessed as a fancy breed, not by its ability to fly a race course.
Exhibition management focuses on condition and composure. Birds should be fit enough to stand firmly, with clean feathering, a bright eye, and no overgrown or neglected facial furnishings. Breeders select slowly for head character because exaggeration can interfere with feeding, vision, or general health. A prospective owner should compare birds against the standard used by the local club and should avoid assuming that the word Antwerp guarantees homing performance.
