Show Tippler
The show tippler is an exhibition form of the tippler, a pigeon family historically selected for long, steady flying rather than tumbling or homing races. In the show version, endurance heritage remains part of the identity, but judging usually turns to size, balance, head, feather quality, and accepted colors such as blue, mealy, red, bronze, or silver depending on the standard. It should be understood separately from competition flying tipplers that are timed for hours aloft.
A show tippler loft benefits from moderation. Birds should not be allowed to become heavy, yet they also do not require the intense training schedule of a flying competition kit. Breeders look for sound bodies, calm handling, and color that is clear without weakening type. Buyers interested in actual duration flying should ask whether the family has been flown recently, because show selection and flight selection can move in different directions over only a few generations.
