Sottobanca French Type
The Sottobanca French type is a French selection or interpretation of the Sottobanca, the large Italian form pigeon. It should be understood as a type distinction within the Sottobanca world rather than an unrelated breed name. French-type birds may be judged with preferences in body depth, carriage, head, or finish that differ from Italian lines, depending on the club standard being used. The important point is that the label signals a particular exhibition style.
Practical management is the same foundation used for other large show pigeons: space, dry footing, strong perches, and careful feeding so birds carry weight without losing activity. Breeders should pair with a clear standard in mind, since mixing French and other Sottobanca types casually can produce birds that satisfy neither description. A buyer should ask which national or club standard the loft follows and should inspect mature birds for balance, not just size. Heavy body alone does not define useful breeding stock.
