Spanish Mondain
The Spanish mondain belongs to the broad mondain and utility-pigeon tradition: large domestic pigeons bred for a substantial body, calm temperament, and meat or exhibition value. French Mondains are better known internationally, but a Spanish mondain label points to regional selection rather than a generic heavy pigeon. The important traits are usually depth, width, smooth feathering, and a balanced head that suits a bird meant to look powerful without appearing coarse.
Spanish mondains need housing built for a heavy pigeon, with low sturdy perches and nest spaces wide enough for adults to turn without trampling eggs or squabs. The best large birds remain active, fertile, and reliable as parents, so size alone is a poor breeding goal. Show preparation is more about clean plumage and controlled condition than simple weight. Buyers can learn a lot from the loft: broad, steady, vigorous adults are a better sign than birds that look overfed or awkward.
