Spanish Owl Pigeon
The Spanish owl pigeon belongs to the owl pigeon family, a group with rounded heads, short beaks, compact bodies, and often a small breast frill or jabot. The Spanish form is a regional interpretation rather than a substitute name for every owl pigeon. Its appeal is in proportion: a neat face, lively eye, tidy frill when present, and a body that stays small and balanced under the head.
Owl pigeons ask breeders to be moderate. Very short beaks and exaggerated heads may reduce feeding ability or make rearing young harder. Spanish owl pigeons should be selected for sound breathing, clean eyes, and parent performance as well as outline. They suit fanciers who enjoy close handling and careful pair evaluation rather than large free-flying lofts. Clean nest areas are helpful because short-faced birds spend much of their time near the floor or nest while feeding young.
