Stargard Shaker
Named for Stargard in Pomerania, now in Poland, the Stargard Shaker is a regional fancy pigeon breed also called the Stargarder Zitterhals in German sources. It is a domestic pigeon descended from Columba livia, selected less for speed or meat than for carriage and manner. The breed's signature is a visible quiver or shaking of the neck, especially when the bird is alert or displaying. Show standards also weigh body balance, head shape, feather quality, and color, with blue, black, ash red, grizzle, and dilute variants appearing in different lines.
Loft management is much like other small fancy pigeons: dry housing, safe perches, clean grit, and a steady grain ration matter more than elaborate equipment. Because the shaking action is a breed character, keepers still need to distinguish it from illness, weakness, or injury. Breeding pairs should be chosen for vigor and reliable rearing as well as the neck action, since rare regional breeds can lose hardiness when selection is too narrow. Calm handling also helps birds show the intended carriage without stress.
