Starling Pigeon
The Starling pigeon is an ornamental domestic pigeon breed named for plumage that suggests a starling's spotted or spangled look, not for any relationship to the wild bird. It belongs in the broad color-pigeon tradition of Central Europe, where many local breeds were shaped around sharp markings, clean outlines and a moderate rock-dove body. The name is best understood as a starling-marked fancy pigeon rather than a racer, homer or meat breed.
For keepers, the main challenge is maintaining pattern and feather quality through sensible pairings. A Starling pigeon still needs ordinary pigeon basics: a ventilated loft, dry nest bowls, mineral grit, bathing water and protection from rodents and hawks. Buyers should compare birds with the standard used by the breeder or club, because names and color terms can shift in translation. As with other small fancy breeds, strong fertility and calm handling are worth preserving alongside show markings.
