Steller Cropper
Steller cropper is a lesser-known European pouter breed, often encountered in translated lists as Steller Kropfer. It is a domestic pigeon variety built around the classic cropper display: an upright stance, lively carriage and a crop that swells into a rounded globe when the bird is courting or excited. Details of size, posture, foot feathering and accepted colors can differ between national standards, so the breed is best identified through a specialist club's description rather than a general color name.
Keeping Steller croppers is similar to managing other small to medium pouters. They need a dry, uncluttered loft where inflated crops are not rubbed by narrow entrances or sharp wire. Pair birds that show well but still feed young reliably, and avoid selecting only for the largest globe if it weakens balance or breathing. Because this is not a common backyard pigeon in many countries, buyers should ask about ancestry, hatch dates and the standard the breeder follows before importing or mixing lines.
