Stettin Tumbler
Stettin tumbler is a regional domestic pigeon breed named for Stettin, the historic German name for today's Szczecin on the Baltic coast of Poland. It belongs to the tumbler and highflying tradition that developed in port towns and urban lofts, where small, agile pigeons were valued for kit flying, orientation around the home loft and sometimes aerial rolling. Modern show lines may emphasize head, stance, feather and color more than the original flying work.
A Stettin tumbler does best with management that respects both sides of its history. Birds kept for flight need gradual training, consistent feeding times and safe release conditions; birds kept only for exhibition still benefit from space and muscle tone. Secure trapping is important because regional tumblers may not have the homing range of racing pigeons. When buying, ask whether the strain has been flown recently or maintained mainly for show, since that affects expectations and breeding choices.
