Swedish Owl Pigeon
The Swedish owl pigeon is a small Scandinavian owl breed within the domestic pigeon species Columba livia. It belongs to the short-faced owl group, with a compact body, rounded head, short beak, and a small breast frill or jabot. It is less common internationally than African Owls or Oriental Frills, but in Sweden and neighboring fancies it has been maintained as a neat exhibition pigeon with a soft outline, orderly feathering, and balanced carriage.
Because of the shortened face, breeding stock should be chosen for vigor and the ability to feed squabs without constant assistance. Some pairs may need close watching during the first days after hatch, especially if more extreme head and beak traits are being selected. Housing is the same as for other small fancy pigeons: dry nest boxes, stable perches, grit, clean water, and protection from crowding. Exhibitors pay close attention to head shape, frill, eye expression, and carriage rather than flight performance.
