Swedish Tumbler
Sweden's tumbler tradition produced the Swedish tumbler, a domestic pigeon from the broad family once selected for aerial rolling or agile loft flying and later refined for show features. Modern Swedish tumblers are usually judged as fancy pigeons, with attention to a compact, alert body, clean feathering, head and beak proportions, and the color or marking called for by the local standard. As with many old tumbler breeds, flying ability varies by line.
In the loft, Swedish tumblers need enough room to exercise rather than being treated as cage birds. Lines maintained for flight should be trained from a consistent home loft and not mixed casually with birds of unknown homing habits. Exhibition breeders tend to pair for type, vigor, and clear markings, avoiding extremes that reduce fertility or parent rearing. They are generally straightforward to feed on a pigeon grain mix with grit and greens, but their value lies in careful family selection over many seasons.
