Swiss Crescent
Among Swiss color pigeons, the Swiss Crescent is best understood as a marking breed within the domestic pigeon family. Its name points to the crescent-shaped marking carried at the front of the neck or breast, a feature that must be clear enough to stand out from the rest of the plumage. Like other Swiss color pigeons, it has traditionally been kept for a tidy outline, sound farm-loft constitution, and exact pattern rather than for racing.
Exhibition breeding centers on the shape and placement of the crescent, even ground color, and a body that remains fertile and active. Small errors in markings can persist through a family, so fanciers usually keep close notes on pairings and avoid using attractive birds that throw muddy pattern edges. Care is ordinary for hardy domestic pigeons: a dry loft, good ventilation, clean nest bowls, mineral grit, and secure outdoor flying or aviary space. Because the breed is not common in many countries, buyers may need to ask which European standard is being followed.
