Syrian Bagdad
The Syrian Bagdad belongs to the Middle Eastern wattle pigeon tradition, descended from the domestic rock pigeon and shaped by older carrier and ornamental lines. It is associated with Syria and the Levant, not with the modern racing homer, and is recognized by a strong beak, developed nasal and eye cere, firm body, and alert carriage. The exact look can vary between regional and European show interpretations, especially in the degree of wattle and head strength desired.
Management should keep the functional limits of the wattle type in mind. Excessively heavy cere can interfere with vision, feeding, or rearing, so experienced breeders favor sound birds that can mate and feed squabs reliably. The Syrian Bagdad needs the same basics as other pigeons: a dry loft, fresh water, grit, and protection from heat stress and predators. Handling is usually calm but deliberate, since strong-beaked pigeons can resent rough catching. For buyers, clear photos of the head, beak line, eyes, and body stance are more useful than color alone.
