Syrian Curled Dewlap
The Syrian curled dewlap is an ornamental domestic pigeon associated with Syrian fancy-pigeon breeding. It combines the dewlap type, recognized by fullness and loose feathering around the throat and crop, with curled or frilled feather texture that gives the bird a more ornate outline. Accounts outside specialist pigeon circles are limited, so the exact standard may vary; the breed is best understood as a Syrian dewlap-family variety within Columba livia.
In the loft, this is usually a show and preservation bird rather than a hard-flown kit pigeon. Feather condition matters: perches, nest fronts, and drinkers should be arranged so the curled plumage and lower neck stay clean and dry. Breeding choices need to balance the decorative curl with vigor, normal feeding of squabs, and sound body structure. New keepers should look for birds from healthy pairs and ask how closely related a small regional line has become.
