Syrian Frillback
The Syrian frillback is a Syrian fancy pigeon variety marked by curled or frilled feathers, especially over the wing shields and back. It belongs to the same domestic species as common loft pigeons, Columba livia, but has been selected for feather texture rather than speed or homing. Compared with the better-known European frillback breeds, the Syrian name may refer to a regional type with its own body shape, color preferences, and judging habits.
Curled feathers need a dry, well-ventilated loft because dampness and dirt quickly spoil the outline. Breeding pens should allow easy movement and normal mating, since very heavy feather curl can interfere with balance or fertility in some fancy pigeons. A sound Syrian frillback should still be active, able to rear young, and free of brittle feathering. When stock is rare, keepers often value unrelated birds and honest notes on hatchability as much as show finish.
