Szegedin Highflyer
The Szegedin highflyer, often rendered as the Szeged highflyer or Szegediner Hochflieger, is a Hungarian domestic pigeon breed developed around Szeged. It belongs to the Central European highflyer group, pigeons selected to rise high, stay aloft, and work as a kit rather than to tumble deeply. The breed is typically active and compact, with the usual range of domestic pigeon colors appearing in different lines and standards.
Fanciers who keep Szegedin highflyers often separate show type from true flying families, so buyers should ask whether the birds are flown and what flight times are expected. Training depends on consistency: young kits are settled early, exercised in suitable weather, and protected from raptors as far as the location allows. In the breeding loft, endurance, orientation, and calm trapping should carry as much weight as feather quality and color.
