Taganrog Tumbler
The Taganrog tumbler is a Russian regional pigeon breed named for Taganrog, the port city on the Sea of Azov. It is one of many local tumbler and high-flying pigeons developed from the domestic rock pigeon, Columba livia, in towns where rooftop flying was part of everyday pigeon keeping. Published descriptions are not as common as they are for larger international breeds, so spelling and type details may differ among fanciers. In general, the breed is understood as an active, medium-small tumbler with close feathering and a plain working outline rather than heavy ornament.
For a loft keeper, the important question is whether a line is still flown or has shifted toward show selection. Young birds need patient settling, a reliable trap, and training in weather that lets them develop confidence over the home loft. Breeding choices should be based on soundness, orientation, and the family's actual tumbling style, not only on color. Limited availability outside eastern Europe makes quarantine, identity checks, and honest performance information especially useful.
