Thurgau Crescent
The Thurgau crescent is a Swiss fancy pigeon of domestic rock dove origin, associated with the canton of Thurgau and the broader colour-pigeon tradition. It is kept for a neat, active field-pigeon body and a defined crescent or half-moon marking that contrasts with the surrounding plumage. In different lofts, the ground colour may appear as blue, black, ash red, brown, bar, checker, grizzle, dilute, or related variations, but the pattern and balance of type matter more than rarity of colour.
Most Thurgau crescent pigeons are show and hobby loft birds rather than homers. They do well in a dry, airy pigeon loft with protected nest boxes, bathing water, mineral grit, and a steady grain and legume ration. Breeding pairs are usually chosen for crisp crescent edges, sound feather quality, clear eyes, and vigor, because mismarked youngsters are common in marked breeds. Buyers should ask which national standard the breeder follows, since Swiss and European colour-pigeon terminology can differ in translation.
