Thurgau Peak-Crested
The Thurgau peak-crested pigeon is a Swiss fancy domestic pigeon, descended from the rock dove and distinguished by a pointed feather crest at the rear of the head. It belongs to the Thurgau colour-pigeon tradition rather than the racing or utility families, so exhibition type, crest shape, colour, and clean presentation are the main concerns. A good peak crest should look centered and tidy, setting off the bird's head without hiding the eyes or disturbing normal movement.
Feather direction is inherited unevenly, so breeders usually keep careful notes on which pairs produce straight, well placed crests instead of split, flat, or twisted ones. These pigeons need a sheltered loft where perches, nest fronts, and carriers do not rub the crest to pieces before shows. Regular bathing helps the head feathers settle naturally. As with other fancy pigeons, healthy weight, steady breeding, and calm handling matter as much as the decorative point that gives the variety its name.
