Thurgau White-Tail
The Thurgau white-tail is a Swiss domestic pigeon variety named for the contrast of a white tail with a coloured body or wing pattern. It belongs with the Thurgau fancy colour pigeons, a group selected for local markings and neat field-pigeon type rather than flight performance. Depending on the line, colours may include blue, black, ash red, brown, dilute, barred, checked, grizzle, or other established pigeon patterns, but the tail must remain the visual anchor of the variety.
Keeping white-tail pigeons clean takes more attention than keeping plain dark birds. Dry nest bowls, clean perches, and regular bath water help prevent staining, while a secure loft protects the tail feathers from damage by predators or rough wire. Breeding selection centers on a complete white tail, correct separation from the body colour, balanced build, and reliable parents. As with many marked pigeons, some youngsters will be too heavily or lightly marked for exhibition but can still be useful depending on their family.
