Thuringian Breast
The Thuringian breast pigeon, or Thuringian Breast, is a German colour pigeon from the old fancy-pigeon region of Thuringia. Its name points to the breast marking, a coloured or contrasting front that must sit cleanly on an otherwise standardized body pattern. The breed is derived from domestic rock pigeons, not from wild woodland doves, and has the lively, medium field-pigeon type seen in many central European marked varieties.
Fanciers keep Thuringian breasts mainly for exhibition and preservation of a demanding regional pattern. Loft care is straightforward, but the marking is not: uneven breast edges, colour bleeding into pale areas, and weak feather colour are common selection points after molt. Pairing birds from consistent families helps stabilize the design without sacrificing vigor. They suit keepers who can separate breeding pens by variety, provide dry housing and bathing water, and resist mixing them casually with other Thuringian colour pigeons that look similar at first glance.
