Thuringian Crescent Pigeon
The Thuringian crescent pigeon is a German fancy pigeon associated with the Thuringian colour-pigeon group. Its identifying feature is the crescent or moon-shaped marking, usually placed on the front of the neck or upper breast in a way that contrasts clearly with the surrounding plumage. The breed is a domestic pigeon of rock dove origin, medium sized and alert, with show value tied to pattern accuracy as much as to body type.
Because the crescent is a small, exact marking, it can be lost through loose selection or careless crossing with other patterned pigeons. Breeders normally compare young birds only after juvenile feathering has settled, then keep those with clean edges, strong colour, and sound bodies. Housing needs are ordinary for fancy pigeons: dry loft, safe perches, fresh water, grit, bathing space, and protection from hawks and rodents. For buyers, the key questions are whether the bird matches the recognized Thuringian standard and whether related stock is available for future pairings.
