Thuringian White-Tail
The Thuringian white-tail is a central German fancy pigeon belonging to the Thuringian color pigeon group. It is named for the contrast between a colored body and a white tail, with the exact border and related tail-covering details defined by the exhibition standard. The breed has a moderate, old field-pigeon outline rather than an exaggerated head, crop, or stance. Fanciers value clean color, balanced proportions, and a lively but manageable temperament, and birds may be seen in many standard domestic pigeon colors and patterns.
Most Thuringian white-tails are kept in show lofts or small breeding aviaries. Selection is usually about marking quality: colored feathers in the tail, stray white on the body, weak feather texture, or poor carriage can matter more than size alone. Because the white tail shows dirt quickly, clean perches, dry floors, and regular bathing water help birds present well. They can be allowed controlled free flight where safe, but many keepers house them as protected fancy pigeons because markings and condition are central to their value.
