Transylvanian Double-Crested Tumbler
The Transylvanian double-crested tumbler is a fancy tumbler pigeon from Transylvania whose name refers to two head ornaments: a front crest or rose near the forehead and a rear crest at the back of the head. It shares the compact, lively build of regional tumblers descended from Columba livia, while the double crest gives it a more ornate profile than the plain or back-crested forms. Standards may describe the crests differently by country, but symmetry, feather direction, and a clear, unobstructed face are central show points.
In the loft, double-crested birds need the same feed and housing as other small to medium pigeons, with extra attention to feather wear around feeders, nest fronts, and crowded perches. Breeding for crests can tempt fanciers to overlook vigor; experienced keepers select birds that hatch reliably, rear squabs, and move confidently. Show preparation is mostly cleanliness, bathing access, and gentle handling so the head feathering is not crushed. Buyers should look at parents and siblings, because crest expression can vary within a family.
