Transylvanian Tumbler
The Transylvanian tumbler is a domestic pigeon breed associated with Transylvania and the pigeon-keeping traditions of central and southeastern Europe. It represents the plainer regional tumbler type behind more ornamented back-crested and double-crested forms. Birds are generally small to medium, lively, and close-feathered, with a balanced head and carriage suited to quick flight and traditional tumbling. Local names and standards may reflect Romanian, Hungarian, or German-speaking communities, so exhibition details are not always identical.
Modern Transylvanian tumblers are kept as heritage show pigeons, small-loft flyers, or breeding stock for fanciers maintaining old regional lines. A good loft keeps them dry and alert, with enough flying room to maintain muscle and avoid obesity; a simple grain mix, minerals, and regular bathing water are usually sufficient. If birds are flown, young stock should be settled gradually because tumblers can scatter when startled. Selection should keep temperament and parenting ability alongside color, markings, and any required head features.
