Valencian Cropper Dutch Type
The Valencian cropper Dutch type is a domestic pigeon variety based on the Valencian cropper, a Spanish pouter or buchón derived from Columba livia. In Dutch and northern European fancy-pigeon circles, the type has been selected as an exhibition cropper with a balanced body, proud carriage, and a noticeably inflatable crop used in display. It can appear in many ordinary pigeon colors, including blue, black, ash red, dilute, grizzle, almond, and checked or barred patterns. The Dutch type wording matters because standards and expectations may differ from Spanish working pouter lines.
Keeping this pigeon is similar to other medium croppers: dry loft, uncluttered space for strutting, and perches or nest fronts that do not rub the crop. Birds chosen for strong inflation still need to mate and feed youngsters reliably, so experienced breeders watch fertility, crop health, and temperament rather than selecting only for outline. Buyers should ask which standard the breeder follows and whether the birds are shown, flown, or maintained as a regional strain.
