Valencian Peter Runt
The Valencian Peter runt is an obscure Spanish-linked domestic pigeon name, apparently placed with the runt or large utility-fancy group rather than with tumblers, pouters, or racing homers. Runt pigeons descend from Columba livia but have been selected for a larger frame, broad body, and substantial bone. In this Valencian form, Peter may be a translated strain name, a breeder line, or a local designation, so birds offered under the name can differ in size and outline. Color should not be treated as the main identifier.
Large pigeons need housing scaled to their bodies. Use wide perches, deep stable nest bowls, and nest boxes with room for both parents, then monitor fertility and chick safety if adults are very heavy. They may be quieter than high-flying breeds but still require good ventilation and dry litter to keep feet and breast feathers clean. Before buying, ask for mature weights, parent photos, and the breeding goal behind the line, especially if you intend to maintain it as a named Valencian runt strain.
