Viennese White-Side Tumbler
The Viennese white-side tumbler is a marked tumbler variety from the Vienna pigeon tradition, named for white side markings that set it apart from other Viennese colors and patterns. It combines the compact, refined tumbler type associated with Vienna with a specific color layout. The breed is not defined by general whiteness alone; the placement and cleanliness of the side markings are the point.
Breeders need to hold the white-side pattern while maintaining the short, neat body and head expected of Viennese tumblers. Uneven side markings, stray white feathers, or weak color can lower exhibition value even in an otherwise healthy bird. Because white feathers show wear and staining, clean perches and dry floors help preserve appearance. If the line retains flying traits, training should be gentle and local, since many marked tumblers are kept more for show than performance. Buyers should compare both sides of the bird, as asymmetry can be easy to miss.
