Wiggetal Colour-Tail
The Wiggetal colour-tail, also written Wiggertal colour-tail in some English sources, is a Swiss regional fancy pigeon from the Wigger valley area. It belongs to the color-pigeon side of the domestic pigeon fancy, where the attraction lies in a crisp marked pattern and a neat, hardy body. As the name suggests, the breed is recognized for a colored tail set off against otherwise pale or white plumage, with exact details depending on the standard being followed.
In the loft, Wiggetal colour-tails are managed much like other medium fancy pigeons: dry quarters, clean perches, secure flight space, and steady breeding pairs are more important than elaborate equipment. The white body areas make feather cleanliness and parasite control easy to assess but also unforgiving in a show pen. Breeders usually select for straight tail carriage, even color, tight feathering, and reliable rearing. Because it is a localized Swiss breed, sourcing unrelated stock may take more planning than with common show pigeons.
