Zagreb Tumbler
The Zagreb tumbler is a Croatian domestic pigeon associated with Zagreb and the surrounding Balkan flying-pigeon culture. It descends from the rock dove, Columba livia, and belongs to the broad family of tumblers selected for agility, orientation, and sometimes rolling or flipping flight. Depending on the line, Zagreb tumblers may be kept as performance birds, exhibition birds, or dual-purpose local stock, with color and head details less important than type in some lofts.
Management depends on whether the birds are flown. Performance keepers usually work with young birds in a settled kit, teach them the loft and trap before free flight, and avoid pairing birds that tumble too deeply or lose control. Show-oriented breeders place more weight on body shape, feather quality, and matching the standard used in Croatia or by diaspora clubs. Like other active tumblers, they do best with secure housing, steady feeding, and regular observation rather than long periods left unhandled.
