Mysore Ornamental Tarantula
Poecilotheria striata
The Mysore ornamental tarantula is a tree-dwelling spider from India's Western Ghats. Adults have gray and dark dorsal patterns, with yellow and black beneath the front two leg pairs and white and black beneath the rear pairs. It lacks the pale ventral abdominal band of P. regalis.
Experienced tarantula hobbyists keep it singly with upright bark, a secure retreat, ventilation and water. Avoid handling; Poecilotheria bites can cause severe pain and prolonged muscle cramps. Females lay eggs in silk sacs. International trade is regulated under CITES Appendix II.
