Ghost Ornamental Tarantula
Poecilotheria vittata
The ghost ornamental tarantula is a tree-dwelling species recorded from India and Sri Lanka, formerly sold as Poecilotheria pederseni. Adults have muted gray-olive dorsal patterns and pale front-thigh undersides crossed by dark bands, rather than the bright yellow of P. fasciata. Experienced hobbyists keep it singly with upright bark, a secure retreat, ventilation and water.
Avoid handling; Poecilotheria bites can cause severe pain and muscle cramps. Females lay eggs in silk sacs. It is US-listed endangered and international trade is regulated under CITES Appendix II.
