Polished New Roach
Neoblattella detersa
The polished new roach is a tiny Caribbean Neoblattella also established in Florida. Adults are glossy and fairly uniform gray-tan, unlike the boldly patterned late-stage young. It occurs in leaf litter, including sea-grape litter in the Florida Keys. Colonies use well-ventilated housing with leaf shelters, a moisture gradient and varied food. Females lay egg cases. Adults climb and fly, and the very small young require finely screened openings.
