Polymorphic Roach
Blaberus atropos
The polymorphic roach is a Blaberus maintained by specialist breeders and as a feeder. Adults resemble discoid roaches but vary markedly in the dark pattern on the head shield, from a restricted square to larger irregular patches. Captive lines include animals collected in Miami. Colonies use sheltered organic substrate, ventilation, access to moisture and varied food. Females retain their egg cases and release live young. Pronotal color alone cannot reliably identify the species.
